Artist's Comments

Im just submitting stuff left and right now huh?

uhm so :iconamericanfobbie:'s papa wanted me to draw a picture for his friend for her birthday. It had to include the writing in it and hummingbirds and sunflowers. I have to say though, I've never done sunflowers so that was my best attempt

this is my second ever commission! and hummingbird anatomy is quite strange....

no watermark because I dont like them, but the picture, of course, belongs to me!

hard to pick a category, its animals and landscapes :O

This is absolutely gorgeous, in every possible way and I really mean it.

I love the way you made the gradient on the sky, it really seems to give off energy and the colours enhance the meaning to this piece nicely. Let me congratulate you for the wonderful job you did on the rocks, I'm impressed! The lighting on them is fantastic and the shading gives it a natural look that really draws my attention.
Another thing I love is the sunflower <3 The blending on the petals is lovely and it makes the sunflower stand out.

On to the critique part:

:bulletorange: The fact that the lightest part of the sunflower is the same colour as the bird's toes makes them look flat and almost invisible :( Shade them so they get some volume =D

:bulletorange: It's too late now, but for future drawings I'd suggest you flip the text "you love" and write it the other way up so it's easier to read the whole text at once. What I mean is to write the word "you" close to "things" instead of "love".

:bulletorange: This is not a crit but a tip :aww: Maybe it would be useful to get some coloured gel pens. Especially white, golden and silver. They give neat refflective effects and you can use them to highlight some parts, like the contour of the bird due to the back light =)

Hope this was somewhat useful . As I said, a beautiful piece full of meaning! I'm glad I didn't miss out on this one . Keep it up! You're definitely improving!

thanks! yes I know....i hate scanners -_- ohey you need to put your pics up!!! or are you waiting for my scanner? I thought you had it figured out XD
:iconabitmadinthehead:
my critiques are gonna be lacking these days - very short and sweet so I hope you don't mind

Love the mountains - personally I think they are a hard surface to imitate and you did them great
I feel the sunset needs to be blended more but did you use markers? that would explain the problem probably
the center of the sunflower needs more texture and the hummingbird's colors feel a bit off but perhaps that is just me!

clicky clicky!!
:iconblue-kitsune:
short and sweet is fine with me.

thank you! I used my prismacolor colored pencils for it, but as usual my scanner chopped the blending. It looks quite a bit nicer if you see it. Ugh yes, hummingbirds are impossible!! which one do the colors look off? Or both?
:iconabitmadinthehead:
it is more the main one, not the one that is flying
gray is just not a hummingbird color in my opinion

true true, but with me being the anti-reference person I am, I actually decided to look at one after I colored the main one
:iconabitmadinthehead:
